AVR USB Programmer is hardware clone of AVRISP mkII.
Use this programmer with Windows XP, Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit) or Linux to program 8 bit AVR Microcontrollers (ATmega & ATTiny)
Though the programmer is clone of mkII, it can not be configured from AVR Studio.
Downloads:
1. Driver for AVR USB Programmer
2. FreeISP-mkII-Clone Software (Instead of this software, one can use AVRDude command line program too with parameters -P usb -vvvv -c avrispmkII )
The AVR USB Programmer drivers are easy to install and the hardware is simple to use.
This programmer can be used with any AVR board which has 10Pin ISP Connector.
Refer User Manual for more details about ISP Connector and Driver Installation

I am using win xp. After running setup it says copying files after that it asks ok to update out of date files after saying yes it just says it need to restart windows to complete setup but nothing happens after restart ie no program groups or shortcuts are added in start menu. The same thing repeats if I try running setup.exe again

If setup is not moving ahead by pressing ignore, then run the FreeISP exe from the unzipped folder. It should work. Your error is due to non-admin rights. You may also try running the freeisp in compatibility mode with 32bit.

Use 6 single pin connectors to connect the board to programmer. Six pin connector sequence is Vcc, Gnd, MOSI, MISO, SCK, RST. The 10 Pin connector's top view is explained in user manual of the programmer. Download the user manual from product web page.

No. It can not be used as mkII in AVR Studio. This is mentioned on product page / user manual.
