4MHz Crystal is mounted on the board. The Fuse bits of ATmega32 are maintained same as they are set by Atmel's factory settings, thus the ATmega32 refers to the 1MHz internal oscillator.
To use external 4Mhz crystal, set the fuse bit to:
High Fuse Bit - 0xD9
Low Fuse Bit - 0xee
Also note that by default JTAG is enabled in ATmega32. This blocks I/O Operations for some pins of PortC.
To disable JTAG (and hence to enable I/O operation on PortC) set the Fuse Bit as below:
To Disable JTAG and Use Internal 1MHz Crystal:
High Fuse Bit - 0xD9
Low Fuse Bit - 0xe1
To Disable JTAG and Use External 4MHz Crystal:
High Fuse Bit - 0xD9
Low Fuse Bit - 0xee
(Note the Mistake – The Text on PCB, SDA & SQW is altered. Circuit works ok when Pin marked as SQW is used instead of pin marked as SDA)
