History of EmbeddedMarket.com
EmbeddedMarket.com is founded by Pratik Deshpande. Below is the description by Pratik, as how EmbeddedMarket.com is born.
"The process of creating an organization started way back, when I was in school, 12-13 yrs old.
I had two strong objectives those days, one- to make an electric car and another to setup my own business. The dream of making an Electric Car could not be fulfilled at least till now. I could setup my own organization though.
Those days during school, I used to perform various scary experiments with Electricity. One such experiment was to create an electro magnet. WARNING TO READERS - DO NOT PERFORM BELOW EXPERIMENT. One fine day, our school teacher taught the (theoretical!!) way to create electromagnet. As per the text book, figure shows iron rod with 6-7 turns of copper wire, and ends of copper wire connected to a power source. I was eager to create my first electromagnet. I rushed home, took thick iron rod, made 6-7 turns of bare copper wires, and connected ends to the mains 230V AC, switched on button and THOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM. The sound was terrific, it blew off the fuse, and the copper wire on the iron rod melted. The iron rod temperature went high. I sat down and thought a while, as what went wrong. Ohhhhh then I learnt the concept of RESISTANCE!!!! I should have made enough turns (>100000 may be) of thin enameled copper wire instead of the 22swg copper bare wire!!! Since then I continued experimenting with electricity & electronics for a year or so.
Later I finished the school, and graduated as an Electrical Engineer (not electronics) plus I was lucky to spare time to complete Post Graduation in Business Management. Everything was going fine till the 9/11 day. Till then, I was working as Freelance Corporate Trainer for technologies like XML, VC++, COM-DCOM, ColdFusion, ASP – these were hot technologies prior to 11th Sept 2001 (9/11 day). After 9/11, the Indian software industry suffered a big setback as their principal companies in USA were affected from 9/11 attack.
This resulted in great loss of work at my end too. I started searching for some good alternative which will keep me in “software” profession and can help me to achieve my left out goals. I realize that “Embedded Technology” is doing better than “Software Technology” during post 9/11.
That point of time, I had no knowledge of Embedded or Microcontrollers. I decided to learn the technology, purchased some books. While searching for hardware boards, I found that in India there is no one making simple & low cost development boards for microcontrollers. Even there was no programmer device in the reach of common students; those available were expensive and rich in the features, not for simple tasks. That’s the day I decided to design & manufacture microcontroller boards.
In Sept, 2003, I set up two different firms, DeccanCode (for Export) and DeccanRobots (for India sales) to create and sell variety of Microcontroller Boards. Ours is probably the first online web shop in India to sell such kits. Being the early player in the market, the ride was not so simple. Selling online was a totally new concept then in India. We did nice business and had USA’s major distributor (MicrocontrollerShop.com) to sell our products in USA. Later two firms are merged andnewentity called EmbeddedMarket.com"
